Renewing Scotland’s Railways

‘Renewing Britain’s Railways: Scotland’ is a new book released by Amberley Publishing as a retrospective of the Scottish network during the last few years. Written by FWHL member Gordon Webster, it includes a comprehensive chapter about the West Highland and Oban lines. It includes 150 colour images in sharp, high resolution in a much-improved printing format.

A news round-up following the early years of the Abellio ScotRail and Serco Caledonian Sleeper franchises, there is a detailed description of the difficulties both have encountered. It looks at the introduction of HSTs, Class 73/9s and various freight changes, plus some of the last manual signal boxes soon to close. The wide variety of photo locations include the West Highland Line, Highland Main Line, the Borders Railway, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Also numerous high-quality images taken of the last Scottish loco-hauled services in BR days.
